Our History

A Glimpse of the Beginnings

The Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church was founded in 1886 by Bro. Jerry Curry and Bro. Henry Williams. They moved from Smith County to a small community called Lone Elm and started a church which was later called Little Flock Missionary Baptist Church.

In 1895 the Pastor G. McGee moved their meeting place to a one room building on Pine Street and in 1897 they moved into their first church building on Easy Street. The first cornerstone was laid with Pastor G. McGee as Pastor, and Bro. Jerry Curry, Bro. James Linely and Bro. E.S. Shaw, served as Deacons and Trustees of the church.

Pastor A.H. Smith served as Little Flock’s first local Pastor; thereafter church documents record Pastor Leonard Cannday as the next Pastor, with Bro. Ward Porter, Bro. Bill Wyatt and Bro. Jim McAdams serving as Deacons and Trustees.

After the church was torn down and rebuilt facing Buffalo Street under the leadership of Pastor P.M. Mitchell, with Bro. Gaton Porter, Bro. C. Giles, Bro. McAdams and Bro. Sam Farthing serving as Deacons. Bro. Sam Farthing also served as Church Clerk and Chairman of the Deacon Board.

A Glimpse of the Past Leadership

Over the many years the following Pastors have served as Under-Shepherds of LFBC: Pastor L.E. Ballanger, Pastor E.G. Gibbs, Pastor S.M. Mitchell, Pastor D. Marshall and Pastor H.M. Jackson.

In 1945, the Pastor J.R. Mitchell succeeded Pastor Jackson as Pastor. The church moved to its present location at 706 East Aimee Street.
In the nineteen-fifty eras, Little Flock was led by the following Pastors: Pastor J.H. Hendrix, Pastor L.H. Brown, Pastor S. Norris, and Pastor J.H. Finnie.

In 1967 under the leadership of Pastor Finnie, LFBC was rebuilt. Thereafter, in 1972, Pastor Cleveland Wilder succeeded him. In 1977 at the time of the ninety-first Homecoming and Anniversary, Pastor Ivan Johnson served as Pastor, followed by Pastor W.L. Johnson in 1981, who was later succeeded by Pastor Morgan Hill. In 1990 Pastor J.L. Preston succeeded Pastor M. Hill.

In 2022, “The Flock” again was in need of restoration.  Under the leadership and guidance of LC Randolph, Shelonda Price, Darryl Duffie, Twana Rodgers and Rodney Williams, Little Flock Baptist Church was totally remodeled.  From the Parking lot, Sanctuary, Kitchen/Fellowship hall, Baptismal, Finance Office and Pastor’s office, “The Flock” has been transformed.

As is well noted, LFBC has a long and lengthy list of faithful men and women, engrained in the heart and history of this church, who have faithfully served throughout the years in various capacities, and we as a body, are very humbled and appreciative of their diligence and dedicated service to God, His church, and His people.

A Glimpse At The Present Leadership
